2. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies on the Mods.chat platform for the following general purposes:
- Essential functionality: Keeping you signed in, maintaining your session, and protecting against security threats
- User preferences: Remembering your settings, such as your preferred theme (light or dark mode)
- Performance and analytics: Understanding how visitors interact with the Platform so we can identify issues and improve the experience
We aim to use the minimum number of cookies necessary to provide a secure and functional experience.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
The cookies used on our Platform fall into the following categories:
A. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the Platform to function and cannot be disabled. They are typically set in response to actions you take, such as logging in or setting your privacy preferences.
- Session Cookies: Maintain your authenticated session so you stay signed in as you navigate between pages. These are deleted when you close your browser.
- Security Cookies: Provide CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) protection and help prevent unauthorized actions on your behalf
B. Performance and Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Platform by collecting aggregated, anonymous information. We use this data to improve performance and user experience.
- Vercel Analytics: We use Vercel's privacy-respecting analytics to collect performance metrics and Web Vitals. This service does not use cross-site tracking, does not collect personally identifiable information, and all data is aggregated. No data is shared with third-party advertisers.
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with the Platform, including page views, session duration, and navigation patterns. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
C. Advertising & Conversion Tracking Cookies
When you arrive at Mods.chat from a Google Ads campaign, we capture the ad click identifier
(such as gclid, wbraid, or gbraid) and any UTM
marketing parameters from the URL. These values are stored as first-party cookies on the
.mods.chat domain so we can attribute your visit to the campaign that brought
you here.
- ads_click_id: Stores the Google Ads click identifier. Persistent, 90-day expiry. Used to attribute conversions (e.g., registration, application) back to the originating ad campaign.
- ads_click_type: Records which type of click identifier was captured
(
gclid, wbraid, orgbraid). Persistent, 90-day expiry. - utm_params: Stores UTM marketing parameters (source, medium, campaign) from the landing URL. Persistent, 90-day expiry.
Once you create an account, this attribution data is saved to your user profile and the cookies are cleared. We use this data solely to measure our own advertising effectiveness and to send conversion signals to Google Ads via server-side APIs. We do not display third-party advertisements on our Platform.
D. Functionality Cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have integrated into our pages.
- Theme Preference: Your chosen color scheme (light or dark mode) is
stored via a persistent first-party cookie on the
.mods.chatdomain and localStorage to prevent visual flashing on page load and to maintain consistency across the marketing site and application - User Settings: Preferences related to your use of the Platform, such as notification settings and display options
4. Third-Party Cookies
We strive to minimize the use of third-party cookies on our Platform. Currently, the following third-party services may set cookies:
- Vercel Analytics: Collects anonymized performance and usage metrics. Vercel's analytics are designed to be privacy-friendly and do not track users across websites. For more information, refer to Vercel's Analytics Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics: Collects anonymized usage and traffic data. Google may process this data on servers outside the UK/EEA. For more information, refer to Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not allow third-party advertising networks or social media platforms to set cookies on our Platform. We do not engage in cross-site tracking or retargeting. Our ad conversion tracking uses first-party cookies and server-side APIs to measure our own Google Ads campaign performance.
